Iron-Man Late Model Series
Pete Abell Memorial/Hall of Fame 40 for Iron-Man Series Late Models and Modifieds at Ponderosa Speedway Friday August 4
SOMERSET, KENTUCKY (July 31, 2023) – The Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Northern and Southern Series will be at “Kentucky’s Baddest Bullring” Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, KY on Friday August 4 for the track’s 25th Annual Pete Abell Memorial/Hall of Fame 40 paying $7,500 to win and $500 to start. The Brucebilt Performance Parts Iron-Man Open Wheel Modified Southern Series also be in competition at Ponderosa Speedway on Friday August 4 racing for $1,500 to win and $150 to start.
The inaugural Ponderosa Speedway Hall of Fame class will also be recognized at the event and the following will be inducted into the Ponderosa Speedway Hall of Fame: Drivers- Bobby Carrier, Sr., Eddie Carrier, Sr., Mike Jewell, C.J. Rayburn, Timmy Yeager, Paul “Big Daddy” Feistritzer; Contributors- Wayne and Ann Bowen, Jeff Gullett, Donnie and Archie Coffman. The induction ceremony was originally scheduled for June 16 but had to be postponed and will now take place at the 25th Annual Pete Abell Memorial event on Friday August 4.
The 25th Annual Pete Abell Memorial/Hall of Fame 40 will take place at Ponderosa Speedway on Friday August 4 and will feature the Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Northern/Southern Series in a full program of Denby’s J&J Construction Hot Laps, E-Z-GO Time Trials, Heats, Impact Race Gear B-Mains, and the 40 lap, $7,500 to win/$500 to start 25th Annual Pete Abell Memorial/Hall of Fame 40 Valvoline A-Main. The Brucebilt Performance Parts Iron-Man Open Wheel Modified Southern Series will also be in action in a full program of E-Z-GO Hot Lap/Time Trials, Last Chance Heats, and a 20 lap, $1,500 to win/$150 to start Brucebilt Performance Parts A-Main event. The American All Star Crate Late Model Series will also be in competition, racing for $3,000 to win for Crate Late Models. Other divisions in action at Ponderosa Speedway on Friday August 4 will be the track’s Super Stocks ($750 to win), and Hobby Stocks ($700 to win).
Activities for the 25th Annual Pete Abell Memorial/Hall of Fame 40 at Ponderosa Speedway on Friday August 4 will see the pit area and general admission area open at 2:00 p.m. The driver’s meeting will be at 6:45 p.m., with practice laps and time trials getting underway at 7:15 p.m. Ticket prices at Ponderosa Speedway on Friday August 4 in the general admission area will be $30 for adults (children ages 10 and under are free), while a pit pass for adults will be $45.
The Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Northern and Southern Series will sanction the Super Late Model portion of the event and the tire rule will be as follows: Fronts: Open; Left Rear: Hoosier NLMT 2 (LM20) and NLMT 3 (LM30); Right Rear: Hoosier NLMT 3 (LM30) and Hoosier NLMT 4 (LM40) (there is no limit on the number of tires used; the droop rule will be in effect, along with the standardized body rules of WoO/Lucas). The entry fee will be $100 per event and transponders for timing/scoring will be available for rent at the track. Any driver not making the 22-car starting field will receive $50 tow money.
The Brucebilt Performance Parts Iron-Man Open Wheel Modified Southern Series will sanction the Open Wheel Modified portion of the program and the tire rule will be as follows: Hoosier M30s, M60, Medium, Hard; American Racer Hard and Extra Hard (only Hoosier M60, Hard, and American Racer Extra Hard are allowed as right-rear tire options; grooving and siping of tires are allowed per UMP rulebook; UMP 2023 body rules apply; no limit of tires used per night). The entry fee will be $40 and transponders for timing/scoring will be available for rent at the track. Any driver not making the 22-car starting field will receive $30 tow money.
